Using Stratagems is as basic as reloading or throwing grenades in Helldivers 2. If you’re new to calling down destruction from above, here’s a quick guide to use it effectively:

1. Equip Stratagems Before Deployment: At your ship’s loadout screen, select up to four Stratagems to bring on the mission. You have limited slots, so choose a balanced mix (e.g. a heavy weapon, a defensive gadget, a supply drop) to cover different situations.
2. Call and Input Code: Once planet-side, open the Stratagem menu, select what you need, and follow the on-screen directional code (the sequence of arrows or WASD inputs) to send your request.
3. Deploy the Beacon & Wait: Most Stratagems require your Helldiver to throw a beacon to mark the drop location. Aim it where you want it to land or take effect (and step aside!). After a short delay (usually 1–3 seconds), a Hellpod slams down delivering your gear or strike. Once it lands, grab the item or let the Stratagem do its work. Then it goes on cooldown before you can call it again.
4. Beware of Friendly Fire: Remember, friendly fire is always on. It can hurt you and your teammates if used carelessly. Don’t drop turrets or bombs on your squad’s head, and communicate before deploying explosives or minefields. A well-placed Stratagem wins battles; a misplaced one can lead to some not-so-friendly fire incidents.

Once you get the hang of it, using Stratagems becomes second nature. You’ll be inputting codes and dropping multiple Stratagems in sync – for example, calling down an ammo pack right after an airstrike so everyone reloads during the brief lull. The key is practice, timing, and knowing what each of them does.

Master the right loadout in Helldivers 2 and the entire mission changes, especially if the chosen Stratagems offer crowd control or instant burst damage. Veteran squads often go for powerful area-of-effect options like the Eagle Airstrike or Orbital Laser, which can clear swarms in seconds, but newcomers might prefer versatile tools like the EAT-17 for anti-armor engagements. Synergy is key: combining a well-timed turret drop with a supply beacon ensures continuous firepower, while an ammo pack arrival keeps squads locked and loaded under pressure.

• Eagle Airstrike – Good for large swarms
• Orbital Laser – Huge AoE strike
• EAT-17 – Anti-armor utility
• Ammo Supply Pack – Essential for long fights
• Thunderer Barrage – Explosive cluster weapon
• Rep-80 Shield Generator – Team defensive barrier
• Standard Machine Gun Drop – Reliable backup weapon

A well-chosen set of Stratagems minimizes downtime and increases survival in intense fights. Defensive picks like the Rep-80 Shield Generator protect squads from ambushes, and a single well-placed Thunderer Barrage can take out entire waves if dropped at the right time. Mixing high-damage, support, and sustain Stratagems in each mission loadout allows Helldivers of all skill levels to adjust quickly when facing bug hordes or mechanical onslaughts.
