WoW Trinket Tier List for Midnight Season 1
This WoW trinket tier list gives you the lowdown on which trinkets in WoW: Midnight Season 1 offer the most bang for your buck in raids and Mythic+, and who has come out on top in the power stakes - sorted by role.
Below each section you will find a table or list of a trinket's drop source and item level, so you can see at a glance which boss to go after. Note that the ranking takes into account a couple of nerfs since the start of Midnight Season 1 and the latest damage simulation data - that's why you might notice some differences from earlier guides, which were done before patch 12.0.5.
How This WoW Trinket Tier List Ranks Each Pick

Okay, so how does the WoW trinket tier list decide where each trinket goes? Well, a trinket's position in the tier list depends on three key factors: just how good its effect is, how well its secondary stat fits your spec, and whether it's a passive or on-use trinket. Passive trinkets just build up the stat on their own and stay consistent over the course of a long fight. On-use trinkets, on the other hand, require you to manually activate them, which is why they get a bit more powerful if you bind the button to a longer cooldown. And, of course, the item level makes a difference too - the same trinket at a Mythic level will outperform a dungeon version, even if the latter is one tier higher. Below is a table breaking down the four groups with some examples.
| Tier | What it means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| S | Best all-around pick, well out front | Gaze of the Alnseer |
| A | Strong contender, but role- or stat-specific | Light Company Guidon |
| B | A decent alternative, okay if the top two are not available | Soulcatcher's Charm |
| C | Fills the slot until the first upgrade comes along | Volatile Void Suffuser |
The same principle applies to all roles - but for DPS, the competition for a slot is particularly fierce.
Best DPS Trinkets to Chase This Season

This season, two items are really vying for the top spot in the DPS category. Gaze of the Alnseer is well worth chasing, as it gives you Mastery through its passive and fits all sorts of builds (which is why it usually gets an S-tier ranking in the other guides). For casters, Vaelgor's Final Stare is a close second because its on-use effect really scales with Mastery, and players often time it with their main damage window. For melee, the choice is between Light Company Guidon from Voidspire and Algeth'ar Puzzle Box from the dungeon - and according to SimulationCraft data, Puzzle Box actually edges out Light Company in cleave fights. Radiant Plume from March on Quel'Danas is another contender, covering the passive option when the on-use ability gets in the way of your rotation. Below is a table showing the best DPS trinkets by source and group.
| Trinket | Source | Stat | Type | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gaze of the Alnseer | Chimaerus, Dreamrift | Mastery | Passive | S |
| Vaelgor's Final Stare | Vaelgor & Ezzorak, Voidspire | Intellect | On-use | S |
| Light Company Guidon | Imperator Averzian, Voidspire | Agility/Strength | On-use | A |
| Algeth'ar Puzzle Box | Algeth'ar Academy | Agility/Strength | On-use | A |
| Radiant Plume | Belo'ren, March on Quel'Danas | Agility/Strength | Passive | A |
| Locus-Walker's Ribbon | Crown of the Cosmos, Voidspire | Mastery | Passive | A |
| Reality Breacher | Seat of the Triumvirate | Intellect | Passive | B |
| Heart of Ancient Hunger | Vorasius, Voidspire | Strength | Passive | B |
The healer slot operates a bit differently - the trinket converts a stat into healing rather than damage.
WoW Healer Trinket Tier List for Mythic+ and Raid

The WoW healer trinket tier list has two passives and one on-use item at the top of its list. Gaze of the Alnseer makes a return to the S-Tier because its Mastery boost is good for healing too, and you do not have to keep track of when to use it. Light of the Cosmic Crescendo from March on Quel'Danas is a solid passive booster that gives a steady boost and lands in second place without needing to be manually managed - it's just plain convenient. Litany of Lightblind Wrath has a high damage ceiling but you have to time its on-use with a group damage burst to get the best out of it - that's a bit more tricky to do so it tends to be more popular in raids than in Mythic+ dungeons. In the dungeons though, Heart of Wind stays a popular choice because of its Intellect and Haste procs which help you keep up with fast pulls. Below is a list of healer trinkets sorted by group.
| Trinket | Source | Stat | Type | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gaze of the Alnseer | Chimaerus, Dreamrift | Mastery | Passive | S |
| Light of the Cosmic Crescendo | Midnight Falls, March on Quel'Danas | Intellect | Passive | S |
| Litany of Lightblind Wrath | Lightblinded Vanguard, Voidspire | Intellect | On-use | A |
| Locus-Walker's Ribbon | Crown of the Cosmos, Voidspire | Mastery | Passive | A |
| Heart of Wind | Windrunner Spire | Agi/Str/Int | Passive | A |
| Echo of L'ura | Seat of the Triumvirate | Intellect | On-use | B |
| Volatile Void Suffuser | Fallen-King Salhadaar, Voidspire | Haste | Passive | B |
The rules for tank trinkets are a bit different. For tanks, damage control is way more important than raw performance - there just are not as many options to choose from either.
Tank Trinket Choices Across Raid and Mythic+

With so few tank trinkets dropped in the new season, there are naturally fewer to choose from. But raids have two, and dungeons add four more - all on-use items to help with burst damage. The choice is yours depending on whether you need an active cooldown for survivability or a steady passive for more sustained damage. Here's a quick rundown of the tank trinket pool by source.
- Gloom-Spattered Dreadscale from Voidspire provides Critical Strike and is an on-use item, which makes it better suited for burst damage in raids.
- The Eternal Egg from March on Quel'Danas however is a passive with Agility/Strength that keeps a consistent defense without needing to be activated.
- Solar Core Igniter from Skyreach is an on-use trinket that works well for Mythic+ pulls, where damage spikes more.
- Ampoule of Pure Void from Seat of the Triumvirate is a good alternative, and fills that slot until a raid drop.
- Jelly Replicator from Magister's Terrace is a nice little passive that provides a steady boost right at the beginning of the season.
Finally, once you have chosen your role, the next big question is: which boss and which dungeon should you go for first? The next section will give you the information you need to decide.
Where Each Top Trinket Drops and Its Item Level

Knowing where your trinkets drop is crucial, because in the end raid trinkets have a higher item level, and will often outperform the ones dropped by dungeons, even at a lower level. Gaze of the Alnseer can be found in Chimaerus / Dreamrift raids where it has a Normal item level of 250, 263 on Heroic, and 276 on Mythic. Voidspire drops nine trinkets for all three roles - Vaelgor's Final Stare for casters and Light Company Guidon for melee. And then March on Quel'Danas opens up a bit later and fills in some passive slots with Radiant Plume and Light of the Cosmic Crescendo. When it comes to dungeons, it's Algeth'ar Academy and Windrunner Spire that you should head to first, because several of the trinkets and weapons you need drop there at once.
| Trinket | Source | Item level (N / H / M) |
|---|---|---|
| Gaze of the Alnseer | Chimaerus, Dreamrift | 250 / 263 / 276 |
| Vaelgor's Final Stare | Vaelgor & Ezzorak, Voidspire | Raid track |
| Light Company Guidon | Imperator Averzian, Voidspire | Raid track |
| Radiant Plume | Belo'ren, March on Quel'Danas | Raid track |
| Algeth'ar Puzzle Box | Algeth'ar Academy | M+ track |
| Heart of Wind | Windrunner Spire | M+ track |
The full list of trinkets by boss and dungeon ties each item to its source, and of course some of these positions have already shifted since the balance changes came out.
Trinket Rankings After the Season 1 Nerfs

Season 1 trinket rankings have already changed a few times since the balance patches started going out in 12.0.5, so do not go relying on the old guides - they are not going to be accurate in places. Take Gaze of the Alnseer for example - after getting two nerfs, it still holds on in the top spot for a lot of specs, because those nerfs did not actually change how its stacking works - just the numbers, so it still works great in raids. On the other hand, Emerald Coach's Whistle got the opposite treatment - it's now a secondary pick, and only then because of the stats, because after the nerf it dropped off the BiS list.
- Gaze of the Alnseer - still top pick in raids for most specs, even after two nerfs.
- Emerald Coach's Whistle - was BiS until the nerf, now it's a secondary pick.
- Vaelgor's Final Stare - no changes, but as a result it moved up some in the rankings for casters.
Gaze of the Alnseer will stay top of the list all the way to the end of the season because its Mastery just stacks in combat - no need to worry about which damage school it's on - so pretty much any build will see a boost in raids, and that's what makes this trinket so good - your alt can catch up without needing to farm any special things, and the entry barrier is pretty low.
These shifts do not throw off the overall balance - the first couple of trinkets are still must-haves and then it's just a matter of what role you are playing.
