Freezing Band in WoW Classic
This ring was an epic item for the Finger slot with a BoE binding in Classic. A character could equip this ilvl 52 ring as early as level 47. This allowed casters to wear an epic item even during leveling. The stats worked for both damage and defense:
- Up to +21 bonus to Frost damage
- Frost Resistance +10
- 1% chance to proc on hit
- Freezes the enemy for 5 seconds
The ring's proc triggered when an enemy hit the wearer. The enemy received 50 Frost damage and stood in a block of ice for 5 seconds. The mage had time to cast Frostbolt or retreat to a safe distance during those seconds. That's why casters used this epic item both for PvP against melee classes and for solo farming.
Blizzard changed this proc to a Freeze effect back in patch 1.9.0. The game began treating the enemy as a frozen target. The Shatter talent gave the mage a higher critical strike chance against such a target for the entire 5 seconds. The freeze provided the caster with both time and additional damage.
Where Does Freezing Band Drop
The ring is a BoE world drop with no specific boss. It drops from mobs around level 50. The chance in Classic was up to 0.1% per kill.
The list of sources in Classic included 304 different NPCs across both continents, from Scarlet mobs in Western Plaguelands to owlbeasts in Winterspring. That's why the time it takes to farm this item depends on your luck with each kill. You won't have to count these kills yourself.
Caster Ring for Frost Spells and PvP
This ring is for Frost Mages and other casters who use Frost spells in their rotation. Its damage bonus boosted Frostbolt, Frost Nova, and Cone of Cold in Classic. The +10 Frost Resistance protected the wearer from enemy mages. We consider this epic useful for characters on the PvP rule set, where a fight with another player can break out in any contested zone.
The item's version in Forever may differ from Classic. Blizzard has reworked all World of Warcraft Forever world epics. The developers have made each of them stronger and more useful than in the original game. We recommend comparing the ring with other options for the Finger slot by the tooltip. Older Classic BiS lists do not account for this rework.
