WoW Midnight Season 3 Release Date

WoW Midnight Season 3 release date: Xal'atath and patch 12.2 Eclipse estimates

Blizzard has not yet announced the WoW Midnight Season 3 release date, but has linked the start of S3 to the release of Patch 12.2 Eclipse. The BlizzCon roadmap places Eclipse in the winter, that's why estimates from Wowhead, Icy Veins, and ggseason (which all point to January 2027) serve as a rough guide. Before the release of 12.2, you'll need to claim your S2 rewards (which will disappear along with the current season) and prepare your characters during the 12.1.7 window. Eclipse itself will introduce the eight-boss raid The Worldcore, a new Mythic+ pool of eight dungeons, and Delves with Nemesis Astalor Bloodsworn.

When Does Midnight Season 3 Start?

When does Midnight Season 3 start: the Mantle Vault zone of patch 12.2 Eclipse

The BlizzCon recap promises the start of S3 soon after the release of 12.2 Eclipse, which the roadmap places in the winter without specifying a date. No WoW Midnight Season 3 release date has been announced yet. Three websites give estimates for the date:

  • Wowhead - its Eclipse overview sets the WoW patch 12.2 release date for early January 2027.
  • Icy Veins - its May forecast (based on an eight-week patch cycle) placed Eclipse on January 26, 2027.
  • ggseason - based on a 161-day cycle, the site expects S2 to end around the same date.

S2 started on August 18, after a week of pre-season following the release of 12.1. I believe S3 will start one week after the release of 12.2, because that's how S2 started. Any WoW Season 3 release date based on these calculations is an estimate until an official announcement is made.

Midnight Patch Schedule and Estimates

The pattern of Midnight updates is evident from past dates:

Patch or EventDateWhat it introduced
Pre-patch 12.0January 20, 2026Devourer Demon Hunter
Midnight LaunchMarch 2, 2026Leveling to 90
Season 1March 17 and 24, 2026Normal, Heroic, PvP, Bountiful Delves, then Mythic and Mythic+
Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula'tekAugust 11, 2026Coiled Isle, Altar of Fangs
Season 2August 18 (NA) and 19 (EU), 2026The Venomous Abyss, Mythic+
Patch 12.1.5October 13, 2026The Unbinding of Kith'ix, Labyrinths, Aqir Invasion
Patch 12.1.7 Echoes of the WorldcorePTR starting October 15, 2026Release in December according to Wowhead
Patch 12.2 Eclipse and Season 3Winter according to the roadmapThe Worldcore, new pool

The WoW Midnight roadmap from BlizzCon schedules updates by time of year without specific dates. Icy Veins estimates release dates based on an eight-week cycle, which (according to its data) Blizzard had promised. Using this cycle, the site expected 12.1.5 on October 6. The patch came out later, on October 13. Its forecast for the WoW patch 12.2 release date may shift in the same way.

Patch 12.1.7 Comes First

The final patch before Eclipse will be 12.1.7 Echoes of the Worldcore, which has been live on the PTR since October 15. Its campaign (The Return to Dornogal) leads through the damaged Coreway into the Worldcore, where Xal'atath has broken through. The patch also adds the Talebound mode and Lorewalking with Thrall and Jaina, the Titans, and Tyr. Wowhead expects the release in December. BlizzardWatch cites December 8 as the probable WoW patch 12.1.7 release date for NA.

The sixth Turbulent Timeways will begin with 12.1.7 and last for eight weeks. Icy Veins found the summer event listed on the PTR calendar from June 30 to August 11, which is when Curse of Ula'tek came out. It noted that most Turbulent Timeways end a day or a week before the start of a season. The end date of the new event in the 12.1.7 calendar may hint at the WoW Midnight Eclipse release date before it's announced.

When Does Season 2 End?

WoW Midnight Season 2 end date: Ula'tek and the Vicious Lightbloom Boar

S2 will end with the start of maintenance, during which the game will receive patch 12.2. The WoW Midnight Season 2 end date has not yet been announced, but a pattern can be seen in Blizzard's July 31 post about the end of S1:

  1. Rated PvP in each region closed at 10:00 PM on the eve of maintenance.
  2. Mythic+ keys, Ahead of the Curve, and Cutting Edge remained available until the start of maintenance.
  3. During maintenance in the week of August 11, Blizzard calculated the Mythic+ and PvP cutoffs.
  4. S2 ran in pre-season mode for one week following the release of 12.1.

Rated PvP closes an evening earlier than keys and raids. Our team's WoW 1800 Arena Rating Bundle brings your character up to a 1,800 rating in Solo Shuffle, 2v2, or 3v3 (Self-Play, Piloted, or Remote Access). Wins at this rating advance the Season Rewards track toward the Vicious Lightbloom Boar mount. I recommend reaching this rating in advance.

Finish Season 2 Rewards First

Finish Season 2 rewards first: Breath of Blight and Breath of Ruin mounts

S2 Feats of Strength are available until the WoW Midnight Season 2 end date. These include the Mythic+ Keystone achievements, Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge for Ula'tek, as well as the Nemesis Azta'rec rewards. Once S2 ends, you cannot receive them, as confirmed by the Warcraft Wiki.

Keystone Mounts and Titles

Among these Feats of Strength, Keystone achievements give mounts and titles for reaching specific Mythic+ rating thresholds:

AchievementMythic+ RatingReward
Keystone Conqueror1,500Title: the Venomous
Keystone Master2,000Mount: Breath of Blight
Keystone Legend3,000Mount: Breath of Ruin
Keystone Myth3,600Title: The Venomous Contender, Timelost Saddle
Top 0.1% in the regionAt the end of the seasonTitle: The Venomous Hero

Our team will run keys with your character up to the required threshold through the Keystone Master Boost, Keystone Legend Boost, or Keystone Myth Boost. The Keystone Myth Boost also offers a Single Dungeons format for dungeons with low scores. Mounts available for the Timelost Saddle from Lindormi in Silvermoon are listed in the article on Keystone Myth rewards.

Raid and Delve Rewards

Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek and Cutting Edge: Ula'tek (following the S1 pattern) are available until the start of the 12.2 maintenance. The first requires a kill of Ula'tek in The Venomous Abyss on Heroic or higher, while the second requires the same fight on Mythic. A Mythic kill also grants the title Venom's End for completing Mythic: Ula'tek.

Let Me Solo Him: Azta'rec requires a solo victory over Azta'rec on "??" difficulty (Tier 11) in Venomfall Deeps. Nemesis rewards are distributed across three achievements:

AchievementReward
Let Me Solo Him: Azta'recApophic Soul Crusher mount
My Venomous NemesisApophic Patagia cloak
Fangs for the MemoriesCorrosive Victory toy

According to ggseason, all three will be removed along with S2. But after S2, Naleidea Rivergleam will sell the Kindo'jan's Labyrinth Journey rewards without any requirements, though they will be more expensive in Undercoin.

WoW Midnight Season 3 Dungeon Pool

WoW Midnight Season 3 dungeon pool: the new Thraegar's Stand dungeon

The S3 pool includes eight dungeons (the new Thraegar's Stand, Magisters' Terrace, and Maisara Caverns from the S1 pool, plus five legacy dungeons). None of the dungeons from the current pool made the cut for the WoW Midnight Season 3 dungeons. Along with the rest of the Season 2 Mythic Plus dungeons, Altar of Fangs and Murder Row will be removed. Blizzard will revamp the seven dungeons:

DungeonExpansionWhat Blizzard Is Changing
Magisters' TerraceMidnightNew paths in the library
Maisara CavernsMidnightClarified mechanics for Muro'jin and Nekraxx
The UnderrotBattle for AzerothElder Leaxa is less reliant on interrupts
Iron DocksWarlords of DraenorAll four bosses have been updated
Sanguine DepthsShadowlandsFewer caster packs
The StonecoreCataclysmComplete revamp
Uldaman: Legacy of TyrDragonflightNo Lost Dwarves fight

Blizzard describes the plans for the WoW Midnight Season 3 dungeon pool as preliminary and promises more details closer to the PTR. Among the Season 3 Mythic Plus dungeons, Uldaman will lose a boss, reducing the total from five to four. For collectors, Wowhead suggests three dungeons in the pool that offer mounts (The Underrot, Magisters' Terrace, and The Stonecore).

Thraegar's Stand Bosses

Thraegar's Stand is a new Eclipse dungeon with three bosses: Cragcleaver and Foreman Sullk (excavation foremen), Monokk (an Azerite elemental), and Stenvarg the Inevitable (a titan construct). The Thraegar (an ancient race of crystalline dwarf-like beings) will become our allies in the Mantle Vault. Among the WoW Season 3 dungeons, Thraegar's Stand will be the single new one, while the remaining seven will return.

The Worldcore Raid and Xal'atath

The Worldcore raid of Eclipse and the Midnight's Edge legendary caster dagger

The S3 raid will be The Worldcore, with eight bosses in the core of Azeroth. Blizzard's recap lists Void enemies, titan constructs, and living Azerite among the foes. Wowhead and BlizzardWatch add that before facing Xal'atath, players will have to defeat her lieutenants and the Worldcore's defense systems.

BlizzardWatch reports that Xal'atath seeks to become one with the Worldsoul. Blizzard promises a great reward for her defeat, though they do not specify what it will be. This raid also paves the way to the legendary dagger Midnight's Edge.

Midnight's Edge Legendary Dagger

The first legendary item of Midnight and the whole Worldsoul Saga will be the caster dagger Midnight's Edge. Blizzard clarifies that this dagger and Blade of the Black Empire are different items. Defeating The Worldcore will be one of many steps toward obtaining Midnight's Edge. Wowhead and BlizzardWatch report that the quest chain will begin after completing the raid.

The Gearhold Lair

In addition to The Worldcore, Eclipse adds The Gearhold lair (a single-boss raid). The boss will be Noctinaxx, a massive Azerite bat. This lair will feature World, Normal, Heroic, and flexible Mythic difficulties. In S2, the equivalent lair is Tidebound Grotto.

Season 3 Delves and Prey

Season 3 delves and Prey: Astalor Bloodsworn, the new Nemesis, and Valeera Sanguinar

In addition to new Delves and variations on existing ones, S3 introduces three changes to the mode:

  • Valeera Sanguinar - Wowhead expects this companion to reach a level cap of 100 and receive new Curios. In S1, her cap was 60, and in S2, it rose to 80.
  • Astalor Bloodsworn - the new Nemesis has lost his clarity of mind due to the anguish he drew from enemies through Prey.
  • Opt-in trials - Blizzard will add these alongside Astalor and (in the early stages of development) is comparing them to Prey Torments.

Prey in Eclipse will get new targets and Torments, as well as Agony Mode in the Mantle Vault as the final difficulty tier. Rewards for the current Nightmare difficulty are detailed in the article on Nightmare Prey.

Season 3 Mythic Plus Rewards

Season 3 mythic plus rewards: a Protection Warrior and the Mythic Keystone

Top 5% will be the new reward tier in S3. The game will calculate the Top 1% and Top 5% tiers of Mythic Plus rewards based on rankings within each specialization. Blizzard explains this using the example of a Protection Warrior, who will be compared to other Protection Warriors.

The Top 0.1% with a title (as BlizzardWatch reports) remains based on the overall regional ranking. Based on past seasons, the same website expects the Top 5% threshold to be no lower than 3,400. Blizzard calculates each Mythic Plus title cutoff during maintenance at the end of the season, so the threshold for the S2 title The Venomous Hero will be revealed with the release of 12.2.

What Else Eclipse Adds

What Eclipse adds: Forsaken, Night Elf and Troll Paladins

In addition to S3, Eclipse will introduce a new zone and systems. These affect PvE, PvP, and the player's home:

  • Mantle Vault - a zone with the Radiant Core renown track, hidden by the Titans deep beneath Azeroth. It is home to our Thraegar allies and the Deepskar Empire faction (kobolds, troggs, and drogbar led by the niffen).
  • Radiant Screams - zone-wide events for flexible-size groups with unique rewards.
  • Paladin for Forsaken, Night Elf, and Troll - you can create a character of this class or change their race.
  • Calibration Chamber - groups or raids can test their rotations here on dummies with cooldown resets and raid buffs.
  • PvP Journey - an updated PvP progression system with its own rewards.
  • Housing - homes will get a Showcase, mannequins, and copy-paste for decor, along with four new endeavors. The basics of the system are described in the Housing guide.

Before the first pull in The Worldcore, I'd check out the Calibration Chamber, where a mistake won't result in a wipe.

Is Season 3 the Final Season?

Is Season 3 the final season: the Lich King and the WotLK Remix

Blizzard calls Eclipse the last major update, while BlizzardWatch considers S3 to be the third (and, based on the experience of the past two expansions, the final) season of Midnight. The WoW Midnight roadmap after 12.2 shows two patches, an announcement, and an event:

UpdateDateWhat's Known
Patch 12.2.5Spring 2027Soulstorms, transmog for any armor
Patch 12.2.7Summer 2027Storyline, professions, Midsummer
Announcement of The Last TitanBetween winter and springThe finale of the Worldsoul Saga
Wrath of the Lich King RemixSummer 2027Toward the end of Midnight

TWW set the precedent, with its third season starting on August 12, 2025. It ended with the Midnight pre-patch on January 20, 2026, when Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge became unavailable. I believe S3 will last until The Last Titan pre-patch, because that's how the last season of TWW ended.

How to Prepare for Season 3

How to prepare for Season 3: the Markeet of the Infinite mount from Turbulent Timeways

Before the start of WoW Midnight Season 3, you have two tasks: claim your S2 rewards and prepare your characters during the 12.1.7 patch window. Both can be completed within the same timeframe, since 12.1.7 comes out before the end of S2.

Level Alts Before Eclipse

Leveling alts during the 12.1.7 patch window is accelerated by the Turbulent Timeways experience bonus:

  1. Each Timewalking dungeon gives a stack of Knowledge of the Timeways (+5%).
  2. Completing four such dungeons upgrades the buff to Mastery of the Timeways, granting +30% experience.
  3. Achieving Mastery in four out of eight weeks gives the Markeet of the Infinite mount via the Master of the Turbulent Timeways VI achievement.

New Paladin races will be unlocked with the release of Eclipse, so I recommend dedicating the 12.1.7 window to your current alts. If you don't have time for Timewalking, our team can level your character through the WoW Midnight Leveling Boost in any range from 1 to 90, with campaign options. When you order the WoW Gearing + Free Leveling Bundle from the WoW boost catalog, you'll also get free leveling to 90. For those leveling alts on their own, the 80-90 leveling guide will come in handy.

How the Pre-Season Week Works

Blizzard hasn't published the dates for the first weeks of WoW Midnight Season 3, but the S2 start in August shows the pattern:

  1. Delves in the week of the 12.1 release ran on Tiers 1-11 with Nemesis "?", but without Bountiful Delves. Rewards there went up to Adventurer 3/6 and Veteran Crests.
  2. A new pool launched that same week on Heroic and Mythic 0, offering Champion 1/6 rewards and a weekly lockout. The lair opened at World difficulty.
  3. The Great Vault awarded rewards for the final week of S1 during the week of the 12.1 patch release, and Voidcore bonus rolls were added starting in the second week of S2.
  4. A week later, Mythic+ keys, all raid difficulties, and the first wing of Raid Finder became available.
  5. Rated PvP began at the same time as Bountiful Delves with Coffer Keys. The Fabled achievement for Nemesis "??" was given for a victory in the first week.

I'd spend the pre-season week on Mythic 0 to get Champion 1/6 from each dungeon.

WoW Midnight Season 3 FAQ: Quillgrave, the hub of the new Talebound mode

After S2 ends, the game resets the Mythic+ rating, clears seasonal currencies and caps like Conquest and Crests, and closes Keystone achievements. Your character's gear and transmog are retained.

When will Blizzard announce the Season 3 date?

Blizzard hasn't specified an announcement date. The S2 dates were revealed in a July 31 post about the end of S1. I expect the WoW Midnight Season 3 release date to be announced in a similar post about the end of S2.

Are Season 3 tier sets revealed yet?

Blizzard hasn't shown the S3 tier sets yet. Since the S2 set bonuses appeared on the forums during the PTR 12.1 tests, you can expect the S3 sets with PTR 12.2. The S1 class sets are covered in the article about Midnight tier sets.

What is Talebound in WoW Midnight?

Talebound is an action-RPG-style PvE mode introduced in 12.1.7, where Storyteller stories can be played solo or with friends. The mode gives three classes (Slayer, Inquisitor, and Witch), the Bound Silver currency, and account-wide cosmetics.
