WoW Forever Dual Spec Guide

WoW Forever dual spec is purchased from the class trainer in the capital city at level 40 and allows you to save two talent sets, which can be switched without having to reset. With them, you level up in the damage tree, but in dungeons, you can take on the role of a tank or healer. Choosing your second talent set in World of Warcraft Forever depends on your gold, the reset cost, and your class’s role in the group.

Dual spec unlocks at level 40, as Blizzard has noted in all class deep dives. It is sold by the class trainer in the capital city. A character without the Talented perk earns 31 talent points by this level, which is enough for a 31-point gold medal talent in one tree of the second set.

The second talent set is used for most of the leveling process, since by level 40, you’ll have earned 1,154,400 out of the 4,084,700 XP required to reach 60 (Warcraft Tavern). In the third episode of the WoW Forever podcast (Wowhead, October 10, 2026), Josh Greenfield said that dual spec unlocks at level 40 and that the team had discussed the appropriate threshold. He himself suggested 30 (“Maybe a cheeky thirty”) during a discussion about a tank build for dungeons.

Players on the Blizzard forums also requested levels 10, 20, 25, or 30 so they could level up in the damage tree while tanking or healing in dungeons. Others advocated for 40, at which point talent trees begin to define a character’s role. In the game, dual spec unlocks at level 40.

The trainer adds a second set of talents to your character. The game saves both builds and switches between them without requiring a visit to the trainer, following four rules:

• Second slot - you fill it with your build and redistribute your points.
• Activate Secondary Spec - a spell with a 5-second cast that changes your active build anywhere in the world.
• Free switch - switching costs no gold, but points within the active set can be changed in one way, by resetting them at the trainer for a fee.
• Number of points - it is the same in both sets and depends on the character’s level and the rank of the Talented perk.

There is no third talent set in the game, as Blizzard told TechRadar that it has no plans to go beyond two. Later, Kris Zierhut (Principal Game Designer) did not rule it out in an interview with IGN, but stated that two sets are sufficient for most of the content (PC Games, October 30, 2026).

The WoW Forever dual spec cost is the gold fee displayed by the class trainer in the purchase window at level 40 (Blizzard in an interview with TechRadar). Blizzard also sold the second talent set in other versions of the game:

Since the Apprentice Riding skill with the first mount at the same level costs 100 gold (10% discount if you’re Honored with your race’s faction), you save up gold for both purchases together. Riding and your first mount are unlocked by the Apprentice Riding & First Mount Boost, where the booster farms 100 gold on your character or takes it from the ChaosBoost reserve. In the live game, a class trainer in the capital city resets talents for a fee that increases with each reset and decreases once a week (TechRadar interview, October 10, 2026). The developers explained the price increase by saying, “We do not want to have cheap respecs.”

From September 24, 2026, until launch, the WoW Forever respec cost in the beta was 1 silver if talents hadn’t been changed in a long time. A second reset within an hour was more expensive than the first. Dual spec eliminates some of these costs because changing roles is free.

The class trainer resets your talents and Legacy perks (the “unlearn my class or legacy talents” option) and sells a second set in your faction’s capital cities:

Since Undead Paladin and Dwarf Shaman are new combinations, Horde paladins are trained by a new NPC (Garen Largo) in Undercity. Alliance shamans are trained in Ironforge because there is no shaman trainer in Stormwind.

WoW Forever talents become available at level 10. After that, the character receives one point per level and 51 points by 60. Classic builds cannot be transferred as-is because Blizzard has made Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, and Improved Mark of the Wild baseline abilities. The WoW Forever talent tree has the same number of tiers as Classic, but the one-point gold medal talents are located at four thresholds:

1. 11 points - this tier includes the mage’s Ice Lance and the shaman’s Water Shield.
2. 16 points - at this new threshold, the shaman unlocks Mana Tide Totem.
3. 21 points - the paladin receives Holy Shock at this tier.
4. 31 points - a level-40 character can reach it via a single branch.

The Legacy Talented perk from the Adventure tree unlocks talent points up to five levels earlier. A character spends up to 16 points from their shared account pool on Legacy perks.

I recommend that hybrid classes choose a second spec for tanking or healing, because switching roles is free, whereas resetting at a trainer becomes more expensive each time. Put together both builds in the WoW Forever talent calculator before traveling to the capital city.

Second-role talents rely on specific gear. Thick Hide grants a druid armor based on Defense bonuses from buffs and items. A warrior needs a shield; without it, Master of Defense and Bastion won’t work. The character carries their second-role gear set in their bags.

Leveling up to level 40 and traveling to the trainer in the capital city take time that can be saved with three services from the WoW Forever boost section:

• WoW Forever Dual Spec Unlock Boost - the booster purchases the second spec slot, sets up your chosen build in it, and confirms it with you. Options add paying the trainer with our gold and leveling from 1 to 60.
• WoW Forever Character Leveling Boost 1–60 - piloted quest-based leveling within the chosen range, with Dual Specialization at 40 and Riding at 40 as add-ons.
• WoW Forever Hero Bundle - one booster levels a character from 1 to 60 and unlocks a second spec at 40. At 60, the package adds Journeyman Riding with the first epic mount, all flight paths, and pre-raid gear for your class.
